2011 iMac 27" and external monitor

Hi all

So, as per the title, I have a 2011 iMac running Ubuntu 23.04, and I'd like to have a second monitor for it, ideally a 27" Apple Thunderbolt.

This Mac has two Thunderbolt ports, but I got to wondering whether they require some sort of witchcraft from the Apple OS in order to function, or whether it'll just work if I buy a monitor and plug it in?
